Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy workshops 2020

At our workshop in May we will be exploring in detail ‘Classical’ (and other) Hypnotic Phenomena, and how and why we might encourage different phenomena to manifest. We will also consider whether spontaneous occurrences are the better indicators of the presence of trance, and of change.

Being able to recognise and elicit hypnotic phenomena is fundamental to the practice of hypnotherapy. It is how we confirm and ratify the presence of trance, and how we enhance trance responsiveness in our clients. This workshop is for beginners and experienced hypnotists alike, and we hope to see you there. We will focus on the importance of hypnotic phenomena in therapeutic hypnosis, including strategies for the elicitation of specific responses. As usual, we will also give attention to the session as a whole. Teaching will be offered by Katina Gleeson, Richard Whitehurst and Rachel Kennedy.

Your teacher will be Katina Gleeson, who brings her knowledge, skill and experience as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Mental Health Social Worker and Counsellor. Rachel Kennedy will be taking you through some of the new material David Kennedy prepared in 2018 in his study of stage hypnotists Ormond McGill, Pat Quinn (The Great Franquin) and others.

The hypnosis session and when to use:

• Induction language
• Deepening language
• Therapeutic language

What we can learn from the stage hypnotists:

• Testing & Ratification: be brave, make your work stand out
• Confidence & the direct suggestion
• The value of shock and surprise

Devising Therapeutic Goals:

• The miracle question & the guru question
• Helping your client get clear on their goals
• Getting clear on your own goals

Abreactions:

• What they are
• How to deal with them
• Is it reasonable to be concerned about anchoring an abreaction in trance?
